erroneously stated in some sources that Raoul was the son of Hugh IX. The mistake is obvious enough, for it represents him as a younger brother of Hugh X, who was only a child in 1200 and not married until 20 years later. It arose because Raoul is frequently styled, between 1208 and 1219, brother of the Count of La Marche, and Hugh IX was supposed to have died in 1208, whereas he lived until 1219 [Ref: CP V p160(f)]

1189: joined the crusade, and was present at Acre in 1190 [Ref: Richardson RoyalAnc v2p521]

1200: was given the castle of Civray in Poitou by King John [Ref: Watney WALLOP #375]

1214: was re-granted the Barony of Hastings [Ref: Sanders Baronies p120]

1214: received a grant of the Barony of Tickhill; this grant was opposed by Robert de Vipont, who claimed the honour by the right of his wife Idonea [Ref: Sanders Baronies p147]
