earliest reference to their presence at Montgomeri (Calvados, cant Livarot) is a charter of Roger concerning markets at Vimoutiers (Orne, ch-lieu du cant) and Montgommeri, dating from the end of Duke Robert's reign (1027-35) [Ref: Thompson Montgomerys p259]

1031-2: witnessed a charter of Robert I, Duke of Normandy, for the abbey of St. Wandrille. [Ref: CP XI p682]

1028-35: restored the abbey of Jumeges a market at Vimoutiers, near Montgomery, of which he had deprived the monks. [Ref: CP XI p682]

contrart to Robert of Torigny's statemens, this Roger (son of a sister of Gunnor) was not the Conquest baron of that name, rather his father [Ref: Farmerie Gunnor]

flourished in Normandy about and before 1050 [Ref: SP III p421]
