previous writers on the Home pedigree, including Sir William Fraser in his report (followed by the writer of the original article in SP) to the Historical MSS Commission have been wrong in making the first Lord Home a separate personage from Sir Alexander. The mistake arose from the supposed necessity of finding a husband for Marion, heiress of Landells, and not preceiving that she was identical with marion Lander [Ref: SP IV p447 (with corr in IX p106)]

Sir Alexander and Mariot Lander were related in the fourth degree of consanguinity, and had to apply for a papal dispensation to marry, which was granted 11 Apr 1426; but as they married before it arrived, they had to undergo a formal divorce, and be re-united by a second dispensation from Rome dated 4 Jan 1427/8. [Ref: SP IV p447]

1450: founded the collegiate church of Dunglas, endowing it with lands in Chirnside and elsewhere [Ref: SP IV p446]
