[apparently incorrect; this was his son's wife] married Joanna Montgomery, said to be aughter of Sir John Montgomery of Ardrossan, by his wife Margaret Maxwell (SP V p140) Note that his son married Joanna Montgomery, daughter of Sir John Montgomery and Agnes of the Isles (MacEwen) [Ref: MacEwen 7Countesses Lennox p180, SP V p140]

the events of his life are often confused with those of his son Sir Thomas Boyd [Ref: Thompson CharlesII v12-86]

[regarding confusion with his son] he did not die 7 July 1432, his wife was not Joanna Montgomery, as in generally stated (e.g. SP 5:140). Andrew B.W. MacEwen has shown that various events have been confused, and that Robert Boyd (father of this Thomas) husband of the Gifford heiress, has been omitted altogether. Alice Gifford, the supposed wife of Thomas Boyd, never existed, and the name of his actual wife remains unknown [Ref: Thompson CharlesII v12-86(20)]
