original CP text stating "Earl of Winchester" deleted by corrections in XIV

mis-identified in Complete Peerage as a brother (apparently non-existent)
rather than a son of Saher [Ref: Chris Phillips SGM 9/29/2001-052505]
(regarding the parentage of Robert de Quincy, husband of Hawise de Chester):
As far as I know what happened was that Hawise's husband was originally
understood to be a son of Earl Saher (as reflected by vol. 7 of Complete
Peerage), but that Sidney Painter proposed instead that her husband was a
brother of Earl Saher. This convinced the author of the article on Winchester
which appeared in CP vol. 12, part 2.
However, the question was reexamined by Doris Grace Roth, in an article
entitled "Robert de Quincy, eldest son of the first Earl of Winchester" [The
Genealogist, vol.5, pp.221-225 (1984)], who produced evidence that Hawise's
husband was the son of Earl Saher after all. (The evidence had been in print
since the 17th century.)
http://www.medievalgenealogy.org.uk/cp/winchester.shtml
If I remember correctly, there is no evidence that Earl Saher even had a
brother named Robert.
This version is accepted in the article by Richard D. Coram on Earl Saher in
the new edition of the Dictionary of National Biography - just as it was in
the original edition. Coram places Saher's marriage at about 1190. [Ref: Chris
Phillips SGM 10/1/2005-082953]
Sidney Painter's thesis "Now there is no doubt that Saher IV had an eldest son
named Robert who died in 1217, but it is absolutely impossible that he was the
husband of Hawise. If he had been, his daughter Margaret would have been
countess of Winchester and overlord of the Quency lands. But the Close Roll
of 120 definitely calls Roger de Quency son and heir of Saher and after his
mother's death he took the title earl of Winchester..." And it follows
that the Robert de Quincy who married Hawise had to be the younger brother of
Earl Saher and not his son of the same name. [WTM: the remainder of Roth's
article shows that the son and heir of Saher was named Robert and married
Hawise, sister of the Earl of Chester] [Ref: Roth RobertDeQuincy p222]
1213: probably "Reginald" (sic) who was a hostage for the King of
Scotland [Ref: CP XII/2 p751]
1214: may be the Earl's son who was in Poitou [Ref: CP XII/2 p751]
Dec 1215: excommunicated by the Pope, at the same time as his father [Ref: CP
XII/2 p751]
undated conveyance relating to Buckby, Grantesset, Bradeham, and Herdwick in
the honour of Bolingbroke clearly identifies Hawise, sister of the Earl of
Chester, as the wife of his [Earl Saher's] son and heir Robert [Ref: Roth

one of the rebels against King John; but for that reason would have
interhited the paternal lands [Ref: Roth RobertDeQuincy p223]
circumstances of his death are fully described by Giraldus. He was
accidentally poisoned through medicine prepared by a Cistercian monk [Ref: CP
