Research Notes:
For the evidence that Sibyl de Valoignes was buried in Nun Appleton, CP Vol.
11 refers to CP Vol. 10 p. 443, note f, sub Percy, which in turn refers to
Rotuli Chartarum p. 144. Rotuli Chartarum page 144 is a confirmation charter
in 1205, by king John to Nun Appleton of various donations, including one by
Sibyl de Percy, who gave 13 acres of land, 'cum corpore suo'. The same
confirmation charter is also printed in Monasticon Anglicanum, Vol. 5, pp.
653-4, Nun Appleton, Num. VI.
However, the lady who gave her body to Nun Appleton was not Sibyl de
Valoignes, but a completely different Sibyl de Percy - which is shown by her
charter available on the A2A website.
This Sibyl de Percy was the daughter of Robert fitz Fulk and Alice de St.
Quintin (daughter of Herbert de St. Quintin and Agnes de Arches who founded
Nun Appleton). She married (I believe) William de Percy of Bolton Percy, whose
donation to Nun Appleton is also included in king John's confirmation charter.
